Researchers have found that oregano oil can be superior to some antibiotics, as it provides amazing effects in the battle against bacterial infections, but do not cause any side-effects.
Antibiotics can cause numerous side-effects, such as reduction of the vitamin absorption, antibiotic resistance, the death of good bacteria (probiotics), and damage to the digestive lining causing leaky gut.
On the other hand, this oil is a safe and effective way to treat bacteria and fungi, due to its powerful compounds, carvacrol, and thymol.
The Wall Street Journal printed a very useful article which pointed out the terrible dis-service to trusting patients:
“Overuse of antibiotics, and prescribing broad-spectrum drugs when they aren’t needed, can cause a range of problems. It can make the drugs less effective against the bacteria they are intended to treat by fostering the growth of antibiotic-resistant infections. And it can wipe out the body’s good bacteria (probiotics), which help digest food, produce vitamins and protect from infections, among other functions.
In a July study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, researchers from the University of Utah and the CDC found that 60% of the time physicians prescribe antibiotics, they choose broad-spectrum ones….
A similar study of children, published in the journal Pediatrics in 2011, found that when antibiotics were prescribed they were broad-spectrum 50% of the time, mainly for respiratory conditions…
Both studies also found that about 25% of the time antibiotics were being prescribed for conditions in which they have no use, such as viral infections.”
Oregano is a member of the mint family (Labiatae), and the medicinal grade oregano is distilled to extract the essential oil and to preserve its medicinal ingredients.
People have used it for more than 2,500 years, and they produced a pound of the oil from 1000 pounds of wild oregano. Its healing ingredient, carvacrol, is the main culprit for its beneficial properties.
Oregano has a myriad of medicinal qualities, confirmed by more than 800 studies reference carvacrol in PubMed, the world’s #1 database for scientific evidence-based literature.
Carvacrol effectively reverses and treats:
- Bacterial infections
- Fungal infections
A study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food confirmed the antibacterial activity of oregano oil against 5 different types of bad bacteria.
Its best effects were found to be in the case of E. Coli, indicating that this oil would be of great help in improving gastrointestinal health and preventing deadly food poisoning.
Furthermore, Pakistan researchers discovered that this oil is able to destroy cancer cells of many different types.
Also, researchers at the European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences found that carvacrol prevents side effects to some of the most dangerous drugs in the world-Methotrexate (MTX).
This drug is often used in the treatment of various health issues, from cancer to rheumatoid arthritis, but it causes severe side-effects. Namely, scientists showed that oregano oil lowered the pro-inflammatory response in mice being treated by MTX.
Additionally, Dutch researchers confirmed that oregano oil can also “prevent bacterial overgrowth and colonization in the large intestine during oral iron therapy,” which is used to treat anemia, but causes adverse effects like constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and heartburn.
If you decide to enjoy the amazing beneficial properties of this essential oil, make sure you dilute it with water or combine it with coconut oil. Moreover, pregnant women can safely use the dried herb, but they should consult a doctor before they take the essential oil.
